Arch - wired ethernet - no internet after install, but local networking works

I've gone through the Arch wiki up and down and searched everywhere and I can't figure out what is wrong. The Arch Install USB I booted off of in order to install worked without any configuration. I followed the guides for the thousandth time and I managed to iron out a few other issues I had, but networking still doesn't work after install.

ip link shows it as up, but only shows mac address, no ip address is listed.

I tried to ping, and it does nothing until ctrl+C in which I have 100% packet loss.

If I ping a local ip address it works just fine.

I'm at a complete loss. The Arch wiki is a lot less helpful than it should be, but I guess that is not surprising given they made it impossible to join their forum. Trying to prevent newcomers from joining the club I guess.

after looking over the wiki again i tried some of the troubleshooting tips under dhcpcd page that I missed.

I went into /etc/dhcpcd.conf

and commented out duid and instead used clientid
forced a new lease request and it works!
