APM and networking

Hi, i'm running slackware 8, and have recompiled the kernel to support apm, which works flawlessly and goes into suspend and resumes. The problem is with the network card, if it is connected and is pinged or recieves a bit of network spam it causes the pc to wake up. Is there anyway to stop the nic waking the pc up?
Also the hdd doesn't spin back up when the nic wakes it.. so its nothing getting logged thats causing it

The nic is an old isa 3com 3c509 if that helps.

Tim

i would [mistype edided] suppose the work-around would be adding a no-ping rule in iptable or ipchains, maybe that would work. But i have no experience in APM

Some windows boxes need to goto sleep, linux waits a for a ping to waik up

Sometimes you can set this in the BIOS, the function is called "wake on LAN"
