Talking apache2 document root file permissions

i'm using the default permissions configuration for the htdocs 755,but i'm sure there must be a more restrictive setup, considering i quite often need to update the content in the pages ,no matter as user i do it for,i have createn a user and a group for apache with no shell,no homedir, really high uid number, and he owns the htdocs dir and its files.
Great site linuxquestion.org really into the "share your knowledge" filosofy,i always find here usefull advices, not like italian linux sites, they don't share knowledge, they have nothing to share, ignorants, fascion posers, they better work for microsoft.

The permission of execution of a htmlpage's dir is to execute the pages in that dir but the htmlpages don't have to be executable, silly question, but i would like to work out how pages are handled by browsers and put security permissions right, right
