apache2 basic tutorial needed

I am looking for a basic tutorial on configuring apache2, I installed it just fine and can run it, but I gor a foribidden error upon trying to access it, as apposed to wasting everyones time asking how to fix this I am wondering if anyone has a quick step by step tutorial for it. just plain apache2 where I stick my files ina directory and anyone who goes to my ip will see the index.html and any connected documents in that directory/sub-directories, no frills, features, or exciting garbage.

ok, actually the default install seems to work just fine, problem is when I change the default DocumentRoot I get the permission denied error upon accessign the site. the permission s and ownership are all the same, what else do I need to change to use a new DocumentRoot?
