Apache on SuSE 9.1

Alright, I've had an apache server running on windows for a month or so. I was sick of windows so I switched back to Linux. I Installed SuSE 9.1 Pro which had Apache 2.0.48 already installed.

I have a /srv/www/htdocs folder..

This is probably a dumb question.

but when I go to http://localhost

it says:

Access forbidden!

You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster

to start apache manually: from the command line
rcapache2 start
or
/etc/init.d/apache2 start

to configure your system to have apache start when the system starts:

Go to YaST>>System>>Runlevel Editor>>Enable apache2

Hey you just changed your question! you originally asked how to start the service LOL

You're getting an Access Forbidden error because you either don't have an index page in the directory, or you havent specified your index files in the apache config files.

In /etc/apache2/default-server.conf, type the following line between the <Directory "/srv/www/htdocs"></Directory> tags

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php yada yada yada
