Apache not working after installing mysql and php

Hi! I am a newbie. I use Suse 9.1.

I setup apache 2 and it was working fine for 2 months. A few days ago I installed mysql and php. Apache stopped working. I uninstalled apache, php and mysql and reinstalled apache. Still apache did not work.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

In /var/log/apache2/error_log the following messages are recorded:

[error] (5)Input/output error: could not create /var/run/httpd2.pid
[error] httpd2-prefork: could not log pid to file /var/run/httpd2.pid

The above messages are added every time I type the following:

/etc/init.d/apache2 start

most likely the file exists and is locked, delete the file by typing:

rm -f /var/run/httpd2.pid

then give it another shot

Thank you. Apache is working now.

Could you please tell me how to avoid the file getting locked?

Thank you once again.

It is not a common problem from my experience, but killing a program without actuallying doing it correctly can leave stuff behind.
