Hello all. I recently put up a Redhat 7.1 system to serve as a gateway/router for my small lan. I also want to serve some web content and run postgreSQL. I've configured IPTABLES to do IP Masquerading. I am running two ethernet cards -- one to the cable modem, and one to the lan... I launched the Apache web server manually by typing "httpd"...
My problem is as follows:
I can successfully telnet into the box from the internet...
My WEB SERVER kinda works...
When I put "http:\\192.168.1.1" in my browser (on the local lan) it works...
When I put the IP address of the EXTERNAL ethernet device (eth0) in the browser window (from the local lan) it works too!
BUT... When I try to access the web server from the INTERNET (ie... NOT on my 192.168.1.x lan) it times out...
Is this a default route problem? It seems strange that I can TELNET and PING the box from off of the local lan but I can't get http!!! Do I need to do something special to forward port 80?
My IPTABLES rules seem to be configured properly.
HELP!!! This has been eating me for several days now.
most of the ISP's are blocking port 80, so you need to run your web server on a different port. you can do this by changing the port number at the port option in the httpd.conf.
in the web browser you can then give your iportnumber
