Apache install page has unreadable characters

I just installed Apache 1.3.20 on my linux box. I started the apachectl and httpd is running fine. My problem is when I pulled up my test, ie. http://foo.bar.com:80, I see the "you've installed Apache successfully..." page....my problem is that I've seen this page before and mine has all unreadable characters...no English at all...it looks like it can't be translated into English...

example,

"This is english"

looks like:

"@r¨]v▀x¦²M¡ð"

Any ideas???
