Question AOL/Linux Broadband Connection

Can AOL Broadband be used with (RedHat Linux 9)?
The connection works fine in W98/XP, but not in
Linux (Mozilla). The browser icon shows 'connected'
but 'times out' Would appreciate anyone's help who
knows about this issue.
(Roadrunner ran great in Linux but I'm 'trying out'
AOL)

Thanks!

Do a search for aol, and you should find an answer. I think it has to do with aol's proprietary software.
Why do you want to use aol? I would go back to roadrunner.

The answer is probably no. Here is my experiance:

About 6 months ago I had a friend try linux and they had AOL broadband(Yuck!). After he couldnt get it to work I went ot his house to look at it. The connection created by dhcp is on a 172 network and was(i think) a point-to-point connection. I had him boot to windoze and when we "Connected" to AOL it created a default route to 127.0.0.1. So I think it was using the AOL software to create a proxy server on your own machine that would actually make the connection to the private network they have setup.

It looked pretty stupid, so I didnt mess with it. Told my friend to get RR cuz it rocks from what Im told.

AOL????

Do you plan on working in IT or work in IT ?

I hate to sound biased but if you want to work in IT get rid of AOL. You should see what there software does to macs.

I can't image why you want to even use aol at all ? from what I've seen its expensive and there technical support is into blaming it on your pc.

You can connect to AOL with DSL using Roaring Penguin pppoe.

AOL is like a virus on your windows computer. If you ever decide to get rid of it, you have to reformat your harddrive. Otherwise, there are about 200 hits in the registry that linger around once you do the standard 'unistall', if there is such as thing as a standard uninstall for aol.
