Anyone have a VPN howto?

I'm looking to setup a VPN on an exisiting system running the 2.6.x kernel. Does anyone have a howto that can lead me through the setup of a VPN server? I've installed a couple different ones but just can't seem to get them to work correctly. I've tried poptop, tinc and openvpn but all I can get them to do is connect. I can't get the traffic to forward to the LAN like is should.

A good howto that can get this running would be appreciated.

did u try any similiar to following POSTROUTING rule?

Code:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s vpn_net/subnet -d local_net/subnet -j SNAT --to ip_of_eth_local

if it still doesnt work, do "iptables -nvL" and put the output here. also make sure the routing is on. and give us more info about your network.

Thanks for the answer but I'm not looking for something like that. I want a howto to get me from start to finish. I've tried suggestions like that while in the middle of troublshooting and none seemed to get the problems fixed. Right now I have all VPN servers off of the system. I'd like something to get me from install to connection. I'm sure the previous installs could not be fixed with someting simple like what you gave me. The configs were severly butchered when I was finished with them after trying other solutions that I found in the forum.

i use poptop and i installed it from rpm. so i didnt follow any howtos. after installation i used a POSTROUTING rule to let vpn client to access LAN. your distro is different than mine. i have redhat. sorry i cant help u much.

there is another vpn server freeswan. u can check it also.
