Question amount of network transfer

Hi there

Is it possible to gain the amount of internet usage from an exact date till now?
Are there any files that stores this informations?

I did #cat /proc/net/dev and it shows me the total amount , but I don't know how it resets?
because since I have installed nta till last night , I had almost 1.4 Gb download that showed in /proc/net/dev , but last night I saw that this amount is almost 0.3 Gb

Any ideas how this amount resets?

Regards
ArShAm

Short story the rollover happens at aprox 4.2GB (32-bit unsigned short). If you want "simple" monitoring search for Vnstat and if you want elaborate stats search for MRTG. I wonder if 2.6.x does have 64-bit unsigned longs by now.

For those who wants to get reports as graph , maybe munin and munin-node will be usefull
The packages in debian are available via debian's official repository
