Ambit Microsystem Lucent Win Modem help........Suse 10.0

My Suse 10.0 detects the above card. How do I get it to work? What are the INIT STRINGS??? Do I have to do anything special besides that to get it to work? This is a modem that is supposed to work under Linux. Thanks for any and all help.

lspci shows the card as Agere Systems Winmodem 56k

It is listed as "modem1" under /dev/ttySL0. I also installed smartlink softmodem software from Smart Package Manager. When I go to use it, I get 2 errors because /dev/slamr0 was not found. I did the following: ln -s /dev/slamr0 /dev/modem1, and ln -s /dev/modem1 /dev/ttySL0. Still have the same problem! Someone here must have the same type of modem that works on their laptop. Please speak up on how you got it to work. Thanks!
