all active addresses on network
 

Hi, I am not sure whether this is linux or router related but, is there a command line tool on linux (I am running Fedora 18) where I can see all active IP addresses on the same network as my PC? My broadband connection goes to a TP-Link router which serves a number of PC's, phones and a couple of tablets.

I am having difficulty attaching a static IP address to a Raspberry Pi which I would like to run headlessly. So I would like to see a list before and after this connects.

You can use the nmap command.

I am not familiar with TP-Link equipment but most routers can view attached devices as well as view the DHCP address range setting. Most routers have a reserved IP address setting based upon the devices MAC or you can configure a static IP address on the Pi itself. If configuring a static IP on the Pi itself make sure it is not in the DHCP range.

thanks. That gives me the info I require. Actually I am having problems setting the pi to use a static ip address. I thought wicd would do the trick but I guess that is a topic for another time.
