Alcatel Speedtouch: pppd[2287]: unrecognized option 'nas0'

Hi Guys

I am new to linux but think of all the hassle as very interesting and educative: you really have everything in your own hand, which feels really cool, the other side however is that i already struggle with this 'alcatel' modem for 2 weeks.

I did previous attempts with linux, but now i am so fed up with bill's crap that im gonna have a major go this time: I want this to work.

I choose for te speedbundle solution (kernel pppoe solution) and not benoit's solution (usermode ppp-atm solution). because of my provider who uses pppoe.

I read all the howtos and more of them, did make, compile error, got a new version of the code from CVS, make, make install, replaced the formware, editing the scripts and now i ALMOST have the connection up and running
modem_run[1437]: ADSL synchronization has been obtained
 modem_run[1437]: ADSL line is up (1024 kbit/s down | 320 kbit/s up)
sounds good but then comes pppd:
kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
pppd[2287]: RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.3 compiled against pppd 2.4.2b3
pppd[2287]: In file /etc/ppp/peers/speedtch: unrecognized option 'nas0'
nas0 is written in the /etc/ppp/peers/speedtch
(holds ppp options) as last option
apparently the nas0 is an interface (to what) which is is not up and
ifconfig nas0
gives me some error like:
no such interface defined
typing only 'ifconfig' gives me 'lo' and some data so..??!?!?

I ASSUME this nas0-stuff has to do with modules.conf.
various howtos instructed me to add some aliasses (NOT called nas0) to this file, but my compu (or my ps2-mouse) sometimes freezed on bootup: i removed the aliases and it was better after that. Is editing this file dangerous? should i define nas0 in here, and if yes how?

To influence the moment the driver should load I copied the line labelled 'speedtch' from the file /lib/modules/kernelversion/modules.usbmap to the file
/etc/hotplug/usb.usermap. This because i read the hotplugging-module registeres drivers from the kernel-location files at a later stage and concurrently with other processes and i encountered inconsistent behaviour (sometimes link went up, somethimes NOT with errors, maybe due to concurrency issues.

now i seem to get ASDSL-line up consistenly when i boot
but also this ppp-errormsg 'unknow option nas0'

one other strange message:
/etc/hotplug/usb.agent[1254]: Setup usbcore from usb.handmap for USB product 698/9999/1
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module usbcore
sounds urgent but the modem can be found, usb seems to work then: is this a problem?

more questions:

what should i do to get this device-interface nas0 'up and running'?? something needed in modules.conf?? is it the clue that i link this device to a hotplug-device?

What is the problem with usbcore? The module is just not there because
modprobe 'sdfsd' also gives: Can't locate module 'sdfsd' : same message!
Do i need to solve this also with an -alias 'something' usbcore- in modules.conf?
Thanks for helping out ...

oh ja i have:
Suse 90, pIII, kernel 2.4.21-99 and PPP 2.4.2b3

PPPoe not supported

just letting know that ppoe is not supported in the speedbundle kernel solution. Trying pppatm now, still not working, but i'll try some more and then ask Duncan.

The msg for others is: pppoe is not working in speedbundle.
