Alcatel Speed Touch 330 USB and an Ethernet Switch?

Hi! I've been goggled around and did not find any straight answer to this question:

Can I use the Alcatel Speed Touch 330 USB in conjunction with an converter ( USB to Ethernet ), so that I could connect it to the LAN?

So that it will look something like this:

<Internet> ------> <Alcatel Speed Touch 330 USB + converter> ----> <LAN Ethernet Switch>

Thanks!

AFAIK no because both devices need a controller. In my searching I've seen "hardware servers" that share USB devices over a network but did not have any linux support.

Your going to need a PC to connect to the modem and another ethernet port and share via the previous posters link.

Thanks! That solution was/is used: we have 2 computers ( connected to an ethernet switch ) and one adsl connection. The problem is that the cost of energy is still too high for keeping the 2 computers permanently powered-on. So, if my colleague wants to use the Internet while my linux workstation is powered-off, he needs to move it in the other room, where his PC is located. His O.S. is Windows 99,9% of the time.

yesterday I found this:

so.. it seems that we will make some jogging

Thanks!

The other solution would be to replace the modem with one that has an ethernet port.

Unfortunately, the adsl provider ( it's from Romania: Romtelecom; we didn't have other choice.. ) does not allow the 'normal' user to buy the 'advanced modem', as they call it.. the one with 5 ethernet ports. They just let you rent it for 8Euro/month, with which price we do not 'agree'.. it's way too much. Anyway.. ironic conditions, in my opinion!
