Unhappy ADSL Internet Problem

Am staunch FC 3,4 now 5 Chumpy but recently migrated to openSuSE 10 and am directly connected to the Internet via aDSL but I get on the internet. Twas easier in FC coz I'd just punch in my DNS's and that but its proving to be more difficult in openSuSE 10.

Someone Please Advice

you put the DNS addresses in /etc/resolv.conf like:

nameserver 123.456.789.012

where you of course alter the ip-address to match your DNS server's address. You can add that line manually, if you don't have a graphical app to do it..if the file contains the "nameserver" line already, simply alter it. if you wish to add a primary and a secondary dns server, simply put it like:

nameserver 123.456.789.012
nameserver 345.678.901.234

and you should be fine.

But what I'd use myself, is pppoe - it's a simple thing, install the app and you can use pppoeconf to add the usernames, passwords, dns addresses and other stuff - and it creates the settings for you automatically (a command-line program).

I have found a (possible) bug in Ethernet driver provided by most Linux
distributions. The symptom of the bug is:
When a user runs Windows and then restarts (soft reboot) in Linux the
Ethernet card stops working.
Solution: poweroff and then start the computer. Avoid soft reboot from
windows to linux.
The problem was found on connecting ADSL broadband and cable-net. It was
tested under SuSE 10.0 (32 bit) and Fedora core 5 (x86-64).
Readers, please try this and inform others about the bug. Suggest me where I
can report this (possible) bug. Thank you.
