Adsl
I have recently set up ADSL with a tri-bttot set up (Win 98SE, Win XP and Mandrake 9.2) The modem is a ZyTel 802.11g Wireless ADSL2+VoIP IAD Model P-2602HW-61C. The setup works fine with Win XP but I cannot get Mandrake 9.2 to connect to the internet. I am a Linux neebie so it is probably me, not tyhe equipment. Mandrake certainly recognises the equipment. I have both a wireless card and a network card and cable installed. Mandrake says that the network is "connected" but the internet "not connected". I tried in desperation to make an internet call with my external dial up modem (Swann Speed Demon) which does work with Mandrake 9.2 but I cannot as the other equipment is already talking to the server I am trying to connect to. To investigate further I dialed the ISP's server from an other house phone upstairs which is already on the VoIP network and got the correct dial tone.
What do I need to do, please? Regards Lorna Bowles |
If you have network connectivity and are able to interact with the modem/router then the problem may be associated with DNS resolution.
As most adsl modem/routers have an html interface can you bring up a connection with the router? I ask this because if you can do this then the network route is functional and that would point to a problem with DNS resolution. WRT DNS resolution you can either set the addresses given by your ISP in /etc/resolv.conf or you can use the address of the modem/router as they pickup the DNS themselves. |
