Adding routes

I am not used to networking and would like to add
a permanent route on my system (linux redhat ES V3)
to reach machines a another network using a gateway,
I woul like to get the correct syntax of "route add"
command assuming that my gateway is
(same network) and has another interface
on the other network.

`man route` has all the syntax as well as examples.
