Adding persistent routes in RHEL5

Hi, my first post on this site is a question. At work I have been given the "opportunity" to provide admin support on a bunch of RHEL3, 4, and 5 servers. I'd consider myself a newbie with no formal Linux training, just learning as I go. My latest problem is, as the subject hints at, adding persistent (or permanent) routes on a RHEL5 server. I've successfully done this with a couple of RHEL4 servers by adding the relevant information to the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0 file like this:

GATEWAY0=xx.56.200.129
NETMASK0=255.255.255.128
ADDRESS0=xx.56.200.250

On the RHEL5 servers I do not see a route-ethX file. Do I just add the file and the route info? Or has this functionality been moved to another location? Searching has turned up a host of different answers which makes it all the more confusing. Thanks in advance to anyone who can set me straight.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

Have a look at this thread here at LQ. You should realize that RHEL3 is old and no longer supported/updated. RHEL4 still is. The latest version is RHEL 6. Another helpfull page is this one. Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

Thank you for the welcome and the links Eric. Yes, I know RHEL3 is out of support, I believe my company has purchased an extended support contract which will cover the servers until they are replaced later this year. We also have plans to replace the hardware that's running with RHEL4 as well. Sometimes the corporate wheels turn very slowly however.
