I recently installed a DSL router and changed the ifcfg-eth0 file to reflect the new gateway. After a ./network restart I could not get out onto the internet. After thinking about it I typed "route add default gw 10.0.0.138" and it worked. I also typed this into rc.local so that it runs on every reboot and it works fine. My question is, is this the correct way of doing something likew this or is there a "better" location for this route statement? Thanks in advance.
well,t hat works and is all fine and good, but a better thing to do would be to edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 which is the slackware network script. I delete the file and make my own, just make sure you include loopback
if you do delete it and make your own, I forgot once and spent a week before reformatting, then when I went to edit the file again i realised what was wrong befroe the reformat and got very embarrassed
