Unhappy Active FTP and Konqueror, KBear, Mozilla et all...

Greetings all!
It seems a friend of mine has his web site being hosted by a company which insists on using active FTP. OK, no problem, I use command line FTP and it works just fine, but this fellow is a GUI person and really needs to be able to use Konqueror, Mozilla or Kbear and as yet I have been unable to get them to show me the FTP site.
Logon appears to go OK, user name and password are exchanged. Then Konqueror sits there and spins. Eventually the message that it was unable to connect to "local host" appears. If I use Mozilla it just sits there forever.
Interestingly if I use VMWare and fire up W2K and IE 5.0 (cringe) I can browse to the FTP site with no problem, works perfectly. This tells me that firewall settings etc. are not a part of the problem. It would also seem to indicate that the problem lies within the browser/GUI FTP client itself being unable to connect.
I am using;
Mandrake/Mandriva 10.1.
Mozilla 1.7.8
Konqueror 3.2.3 (on KDE 3.2.3)
and KBear (which I'd rather NOT use) 2.1

I don't like KBear either

I suggest you install gFTP from 10.1 disk 2 (or your favourite urpmi source) and give it a try. You'll find the toggle for Passive in FTP > Options > FTP tab > Passive File Transfers checkbox.
