Hi There,

Can any body guide me is there any possibility to deploy active directory in Redhat Enterprise Linux widout integrate with windows active directory.

I have Linux mail server in my premises i want to deploy domain controller in linux which will be easily possible with LDAP. but if i planned to deploy active directory or active directory like service in my network what it should be and if any inputs will be there it will be highly appreciated.

Looks like we need to define what you need .. I'm guessing you want an Active Directory equivalent service for linux, if this is the case I'd recommend IPA which basically provides single signon (SSO) for members of the domain.

I don't know of any Liniux implementation of Active Directory, but for what you describe, I think an LDAP instance using openldap would work find. Active Directory (AD) is mostly useful when you are administering many Windows machines, so if you are only using it for a single Linux mail server, I would think openLDAP would be just fine. If you want password integration, then kerboros can integrate.

According to the latest news, Samba 4 is completely compatible with Active Directory.

I don't know enough to answer your question as to whether you can use it as a Windows Active Directory domain controller, but it looks possible from the release notes.

As per the official redhat documentation IPA is not supported for windows client is it true?? if it is then what will be the potential solution for the same i am asking this bacause i dont want to integrate my server with windows active directory this is all telling you after reading IPA deployment guide. I have a mail server on redhat linux and data backup server and groupoffice server on fedora I have 50 clients who run on windows XP and Windows 7 i want all these clients connect to linux domain controller and want to deploy active directory like service on my RHEL server operating system in which i can apply policies on all clien machines can you help me in this??

If you want to use Group Policies to manage Windows systems, you need Samba 4.0. It can act as an Active Directory domain controller, and you can use all the standard AD management tools to manage users and computers.
