activating second NIC on unicluster compute node

Running centOS 5.5 and unicluster 5 on two machines. one is the installer node one is the compute node. I need to be able to activate a second NIC on the compute node and have it accessible by the network so I can migrate it to a virtual machine. Currently, the only way to access the compute node is by ssh from the installer node. Any suggestions on how I can do this? P.S. I can ping the second NIC I just can't ssh to it. It eventually times out.

Code:
# Configured by tortuga
DEVICE=eth0
HWADDR=XXXXXXXX
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.0.2
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.0.0

# Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet
DEVICE=eth2
HWADDR=XXXXXXXX
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=172.16.0.151
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=172.16.0.0

At a guess i would say its because they are different subnets. Have you checked that ssh is listening on both subnets (or all interfaces)

yeah. ssh is listening on both interfaces. The 192 interface is connected to another machine on the same subnet. the 172 interface is connected to a switch on the same subnet. as I said, I can ping the interface I just can't ssh into it. it doesn't even time out. It just sort of... hangs. I know this has something to do with the stupid unicluster software but I can't figure out what.
