Actiontec DSL Modem via USB

Hello,

I have a fedora core 3 system hooked up to an Actiontec DSL modem via a USB cable. The modem is connected to three other computers via a Linksys 5 port network hub, and all this works fine. In /proc/usb/devices it gives the name of the modem and various other data, so it apparently can see the modem. The output from ifconfig shows only the loopback interface. What do I need to do to get this working?

Thanks,

Mark

You are going to want to use ethernet instead of USB. The reason is the lack of drivers for the USB modems. The system will recongize the device of course, but you really need to use Ethernet.

Device Driver

I have the book Linux Device Drivers 2nd edition from O'Reilly. Is this book too out of date to use? Will I be able to get the other information necessary to write the driver, or is it proprietary and therefore unavailable? To tell the truth I would be somewhat less than enthusiastic to help these people due to my experiences with their tech support so far. Would the driver be useful for any other devices, or only the actiontec? Buying the new edition book is not out of the question.

Thanks,

Mark

Programming

Im not the best at programming, the only language I know is Python, Bash. You wont be seeing any device drivers written in those languages any time soon
