accessing remote linux desktop- pls. help

I would like to work on my linux desktop remotely

1) from within another linux and windows machine in the LAN
2) thru' internet from say another linux and windows machine

can anyone pls. help me out ?

Commonly people use VNC (RealVNC, TightVNC, many more implementations...)

There is a new technology called NX that speeds up X and VNC a lot over slow connections; you can install FreeNX server on your Linux machine.
