I have Fedora 9 on my desktop and i would like to connect to my laptop which is a toshiba satelite with centrino, what i am trying to do is, i would like to connect my desktop to the laptop so i can take all the files off of it, much faster then using my 2gig flash drive , so im wondering if i can just use a cat 5 cable or something to do this i really dont know how to do this.
I'm sorry for so many questions today.
Thanks in advance.
By the way, i am very new to linux do commands and such i do not know very well, sorry if that makes it more difficult..
What are you running on the laptop (in terms of operating system)? If you're running Windows, you could share the directories containing the files you want and use Samba on the Linux machine to access them. If you're running Linux on your laptop, you could use scp/sftp.
In terms of cables, you will either need to go through a hub/switch or get a cross-over cable (just a normal ethernet cable with a couple of pairs reversed). A normal ethernet patch cable won't work.
