Accessing a samba share using dolphin in gentoo

Hi there

I'm having trouble accessing my samba share on my server using this gentoo machine. when i try to enter smb://myipaddress into dolphin I get the error message
Code:
"invalid protocol error"
I tried to follow this thread http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...8-start-0.html that i found using google which suggests that net-fs/samba-libs is required because "The smb ioslave requires that you have libsmbclient to use this ioslave" but when I try to install that i get the an error message
Code:
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "net-fs/samba-libs"
I have searched through the package database and wiki but can't find anything to help, so now i'm at a loss as to what to do next.

I don't need to install samba on this machine, just access the share on the home server.

The posts you found were from late 2009. If you `equery belongs libsmbclient.so` it tells you that the file is in the samba package. `equery b smbclient` gives the same package.

What I'm guessing is that sometime about two and a half years ago smbclient was rolled into the samba package with smbd and nmbd.

What you might want to do is emerge cifs-utils, add a line or two to /etc/fstab, and make sure netmount gets started before xdm and after net. That might make it work without installing all of samba.
