access vpn through proxy

Hi,

My work uses jabber which only works when connected to their network.

I need to be able to connect to my vpn and load up jabber, but I want todo this by having my home computer connected to the vpn and then use my laptop and ssh(?) to connect to my home computer and use that connection for my jabber client.

Can you point me in the right direction of how to do this, im not really sure what to type into google.

Thanks!
