Access secured WiFi with Debian Live (WiFi Interface not set up right?)
 

My setup: I'm using the prebuilt Debian Live 6.0.3 amd64 xfce, on a DVD. My router is set to not broadcast it's ID, and to require WPA with a password.

The problem: I can't figure out how to connect to my wireless network under this setup. The closest thing I can find is in "Wicd Network Manager" there's a "Find a Hidden Network" which will ask for the ID. But that fails to find the network, and I assume that's because it has no place to specify "Use WPA" or "Here's the network's password".

you did not specify which router you use.

At this point, I would enter my router, reset (clear) everything to default and begin over.
Write down everything you did then try again. A setting(s) in there must be conflicting with each other.
If you are not sure how to configure the router manually, I am sure there is a website for that router allowing you to download info in setting it up.

The problem is not the router. I can already configure Win, iOS and Wii systems to connect to it through WiFi successfully. Don't have any problem with those. In fact, one of the Win systems I've successfully configured to connect with it via WiFi is the same physical machine I'm trying to connect with via debian live. The router's working fine. Maybe this would be better asked in the Debian forum?

I noticed that in Wicd Network Manager's settings, the "Wired Interface" is "eth0", but "Wireless Interface" is blank. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before, but I'm guessing that means the OS couldn't find the system's WiFi card or there's a problem with the driver. That would certainly explain why it can't connect. Does this sound accurate?

Of so, what are my next steps? I know pretty much nothing about manually setting up a Wifi driver in Linux.
