redhat and slackware are different distros. /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 doesnt exist on redhat.

u better use netconfig command. it will modify the network config files, so u wont have to edit them.
if it doesnt work, u can add the following line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local file
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.xx
/sbin/route del default
/sbin/route add default gw 192.168.0.xx
