A sily question about SAN

Hello! I am not familiar with the SAN (Storage Area Network). I have a silly question about SAN. Now I have several PCs running Linux and a switch which connects all of them (these form a simple structure of LAN). Could I switch this LAN into SAN by modification of some configuration? Or I MUST add some additional equipments (such as some special switch) or some additional software (such as specific version Linux)? Thank you very much!

You can build a linux server as an iSCSI box and on the hosts use a iSCSI initiator software program.

Keep in mind that it needs a relatively new kernel unless you want to hack at it a bit... Link as follows:

Thank you! I will try to use iSCSI and see what it can do for me!

Thank you very much!

Glad to help. It might take you a bit of tinkering, but it works very well. Makes a very useful clustering solution as well.
