A quick question about ports & internal/external networks for webservers...

Hey,
I have a webserver connected to a small campus network where the network is configured to allow "only http and https to hit it, it can hit anything going out.", and I'm having problems using sendmail and mysql. If I so much as include the mail() or mysql_connect() php functions, nothing happens and viewing the page in a webbrowser only returns a blank white page. Even if i put in an "or die(mysql_error())", I'm not getting any feedback from the page.

Anyway, I was wondering if this is likely a problem with the way the greater server network is configured to allow for ports opened/closed, or if it could be a different problem? Is there any way around it? I just need to be able to use either sendmail (of some sort) or mysql.

blank page

The reason you are getting only a blank page is probably because verbose error reporting is turned off in your php config file.

Thanks, I didn't know error suppression was turned on by default; viewing the error helped me figure out the problem (I'd just messed up the syntax, I guess).
