A problem with pppd(?) and transfer speeds in Debian.
So, I don't know much about Debian and so forth, so some information you propably will need to help won't exist before you tell me how to get it.
So I try to make things as clear as I can. I'm running a Debian server with the newest pppd, and my problem is as follows; My internet connection works fine, until network speeds hits the maximum amount it can get (about 1.25Mbit/s for a 10/10Mbit VDSL). After that, the connection lasts about 2-5mins before pppd hangs up the modem and redials after a while. Now you can understand how irritating this is since I have no clue whatsoever what's causing this. So there's _nothing_ wrong whatsoever with the connection, save for the drops with maximum transfer speed. I'm also using shorewall as a firewall, if that helps. I also tried roaring penguins pppoe-software but to no avail. The same damn drop. So I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about, or is there anything for Debian that would allow me to set a maximum transfer speed to say, 1.1Mbit/s so it wouldn't hangup the modem spontaneously after someone downloads something. I'll be happy to answer any questions that'd help you to help me. Out, lepakki. |
It seems that it doesn't need to be maximum transfer speed, only a heavy load.
Shouldn't Woody be more stable than this, or then again, could it be a hardware issue? |
