Question A problem with Apache

I've installed Linux (Red Hat 7.0), then I decided to install the
latest version of Apache. When I used this version of Apache under Windows'98, there were no problems. Under Linux I've changed it's configuration file "httpd.conf", but operating system ignored it. So, when I type "http://localhost" in the command line of browser, it reffers to "/var/www", but not to directory, that is written in /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf.

Did you restart Apache after changing the config-file?

-> get the process id:

ps ax | grep httpd

-> restastart it

kill -SIGHUP "process id"

where process id is the one you looked up - without qoutes.
