Question A few questions about DNS

I apologize if my questions seem foolish, but the more research I do on this issue, the more questions I dig up. I'm trying to find some information about what I'll need to do to get a DNS server running on my home network. I want to have it so that when someone types in my domain name in their browser, the request is forwarded to my machine. I'm sharing an Earthlink Cable connection among seven total computers. My IP address is dynamic, but I don't plan on shutting down my modem.

I've got one of my Slack boxes set up as a router/firewall using iptables, and I want to set up Bind on it as well.

Ok, now what I'm stuck on is how to get my IP address to be recognized on the internet as a DNS server. And also, domain registrars require both a primary and a secondary name server in their records, but I've only got one IP address.

I realize that there are free solutions out there, and simpler ways to go about this but I'm doing it purely for educational experience . Any help or info at all will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Ok first of all if you want to host your own domain, you really need a static IP address - it's kind of pointless to try and manage a domain without it.

Speak with your ISP and see if they offer a static IP service.
