"(32)Not authorized to control networking" = Sabayon

I'm working with Sabayon Linux on a Compaq Presario r3000 laptop. It has a Broadcom r43 chip, not sure if that's relevant.

I didn't have wireless working after I installed Sabayon on this, but I did have a Belkin wireless usb, and used that until I got the Broadcom working, after updating and upgrading, including upgrading the kernel.

But now, instead of connecting, I get a pop-up message that shows "(32) Not authorized to control networking." I posted this in the Sabayon forum, and was told to run
Code:

# gpasswd -a <your_user> netdev

I did that, and bash returned that I had been added to the group netdev. But when I rebooted and tried to connect to the web, the same message comes up. I can see all of the networks that are near me, but I'm unable to connect because of some permissions screw up.

Sabayon is based on Gentoo, and I've looked at the Gentoo wiki, but so far I haven't found anything to work with. Anyone have any ideas?

I read the Gentoo wireless wiki and it said that Gentoo uses net-wireless/wpa_supplicant. I installed that with "equo install net-wireless/wpa_supplicant," and I was able to connect wirelessly.
