3 LAN Cards, only 2 show up.

Hi to All,

I am using Redhat9. I installed 3 LAN Cards into it but during boot, i can only see 2 which says:
bringing up eth0 [ok]
bringing up eth1 [ok]

i expect eth2 but there is none, i go to system settings then network and there is only 2 NIC displayed
under Devices tab - eth0 and eth1, when I click on Hardware tab, i see the 3 NICs, eth0, eth1 and eth0. So, there are 2 eth0's.

What should I do to have the 3 NICs to show up under the Devices tab.

I hope you can help me on this.

TIA,

NEIL

You may need to specify the nic configuration file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. Type the following and tell me what you get: ifconfig -a

please explain following item:-
-3 of your lan card is same model or difference? Please give us model name too
-Have you use network configuration GUI to configure all 3 NIC? your linux only detect 2 hardware?

And, seems like your 2nd NIC have some special setting:-
Quote:
inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.x Bcast:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:255.255.255.248
2 of your NIC have same name (eth0)
You do it purposely?

Ks

all 3 NICs are of different model. I dont know why I have 2 eth0 here. that's the problem i am asking. yeah, I use the Network Configuration Window (GUI) I only see here 2 NICs eth0 and eth1.

But, when I go to Hardware tab, I see there 3 NICs but 2 are named eth0, the other one is eth1.

What's the special feature of the 2nd NIC? I just replaced the public IP with xxx there.

Thanks,
Neil

easy way is you try to remove all network and do it again (don't remove the hardware, but change to eth0,ethh1,eth2). Recommended solution is you set static ip (with difference subnet)to all 3 network.
Example:-

network ip subnet mask
=================================
eth0 = 192.168.0.50/255.255.255.0
eth1 = 192.168.1.50/255.255.255.0
eth2 = 192.168.2.50/255.255.255.0

Hopefully it help you.

Regards,
KS
