2 questions about adsl usb modem and Susefirewall2, is that allowed? Wait, that's 3..

Hello World. I am very new to linux, currently running a dual boot windows xp and Suse 9.0 pro. Never have time to RTFM, so please can someone solve a couple of problems I've encountered so far?

First up, my ISP provided me with a Fujitsu FDX310 usb modem, which I have installed ok. Problem is - no icon. I have to unplug and replug my modem, open a console and type: /usr/local/bin/startmodem to get online, which is ok too, but to disconnect I have to either logout or unplug the modem again. I already have a dodgy usb port, but find I have to disconnect it to plug it in under windows again for xp to recognise it (sometimes comes up as a new device), hehe. Anyhoo, if anyone can let me know of a way to have my modem disabled without the above methods, it'd be much appreciated.

The 2nd problem is with the SuSefirewall2 - do I enable forwarding & masquerading or not - it says it do esn't make sense to enable it and protect from internal, but if I go to grc.com and run their Shields Up test, it says all ports are stealthed except port 113, which is closed (I assume is used by Yast to update) - is there anyway of stealthing port 113? It's also replying to pings, which I don't want.

Thanks in advance - expect more posts.
