2 MDk PC network- ping OK - ssh not [SOLVED]
very new to networking
PC 1 Mandriva 2005LE
eth0 is 3com NIC setup thru Mandrake CC to connect to DSL modem - all OK (auto DHCP)
eth1 is netgear NIC setup thru Mandrake CC to home net thru lynksis hub to PC 2
setup static
hostname name1.mylan
address 192.168.10.1
PC 2 Mandrake 10.0
eth0 is SiS NIC setup thru MCC to home net thru the linksys hub
setup static
hostname name2.mylan
address 192.168.10.2
each PC is able to ping itself and each other
I see hub lights indicating activity
PC1 is able to 'see' PC2 via ssh via Konqueror
PC2 cannot 'see' PC 1
error mssg
an error occurred while loading 192.168.10.1
could not connect to host 192.168.10.1
Unless it is related to the problem, I am not concerned about internet sharing right now. I think if I get these 2 PCs to see each other first, then the internet sharing will fall into place.
I can post some outputs
any help appreciated
Thanks

I might be wrong but I don't see that working. I don't think that you can dynamically get an IP from the DSL router to one machine and then make the rest of the network static. I think that you will have to make all of the LAN side of the DSL router static. You can get a dynamic address from your ISP for the DSL device. But on the LAN side, if the DSL router is what passes out IPs then all of them will have to be DHCP or make everything static.
Unless I read all that wrong

Well, I tried to let MCC assign dynamic address for both NICs, but it screwed up my browser and I could not access internet. Remember, PC1 has 2 NIC cards. One to the DSL modem only and the other to a linksys hub (not router) on to PC2.
Just realized that sshd was not running on PC1. Each PC can now see and share files thru ssh in Konqueror.
Moving on to SMB with Windows partition and internet sharing.
thanks
