I finally got 2.6.5 to work, but i cant get on the interent and it doesnt recognize my sound card.

i have a dlink router and a RealTech8139 NIC card in my PC. i cant ping my router, so i think it is my NIC card. if anyone knows anything please let me know.

also, my sound doesnt work. when i do dmesg | more, i get someting that says "no sound cards present"

thanks

check your configuration

Check your kernel configuration:

check in section Drivers->Sound->ALSA if your card is selected. and go to www.alsa-project.org to configure your etc/modprobe.cont

for internet a connection log! or try to load ppp_generic and ppp_async modules (modprobe ppp-generic ppp-async)

If you have recompiled the kernel with support for your specific NIC then you shouldnt' have any problems with the NIC driver. try to do an "ifconfig", if it lists your NIC card then it isn't the drivers but the actual config of the NIC. I'm betting that you the NIC works but it does not have an IP address, hence: no ping. Get back the results of ifconfig and we'll try to take it from there.
