100 Mbs switch. Don't understand!
Hello
With the addition of a new pc and "some" sparcs, I have upgraded my network hardware with a Kingston 10/100 8 port switch. I can't get it to work!! When I initially connect, the pc NIC's (Netgear fa311 x2 and an fa410pcmcia card) all auto negotiate to 100Mb/s and it's lovely. However, after a few minutes everything dies, no pinging or anything. I suspected cable problems as that's caught me out before, but found that if I plugged the cables into my 10Mb/s hub, everything worked. I guess it must be something to do with the 100 Mb function, or maybe the switch is duff. Does anyone have any ideas??? Jim |
Uhhh. Nope. No Ideas - but a couple of things to look at....
Check the hardware config of the cards (usually a DOS utility to tickle the NVRAM on the NICs). Have a look (at the cards) and see if they are trying to use full duplex. It can be tricky if you're cascading a hub -> switch. |
Hi
Google nproduced a Sclyd mailing list entry decsribing this, seems to be a natsemi driver bug. There appears to be an update, will give it a go. Jim |
