I need to have 1 IP address for 2 NIC's. I need this for resilience in case one nic fails. I'm guessing that i would just create a bridge between them and have ONE IP address that represents them both? Will each NIC have its own IP address as well? Here is my scenario below. Thanks for your help in advance.
eg. Bridge - 10.2.8.50 (Will be the IP to represent both NIC's)
NIC 1 - 10.2.8.51
NIC 2 - 10.2.8.52
I think one possible option is to use a switch the supports port bounding (trunking or other names depending on manufacturer).
This will combine two ports on the switch into one virtual one. We use this to combine 3 Gigabit network cards into one to give 3Gb of bandwidth on each our servers. If one cards fails the the switch auto negotiates down to the remaining cards.
Your bonded network cards can then have the one address of 10.2.8.50
The problem with this solution is that the switches that support trunking tend to be more expensive than your standard switch.
