{REQUEST HELP} Proxy server with two satellite cards
 

Hi Guys

I currently have a Windows 2000 box connecting to the internet by modem. I also have a satellite receiver card in the same box to receive internet via satellite. The way it works is that all of the outgoing connections are sent via the modem and then received by the satellite card from the providers proxy.

What I would like to do is try and obtain another satellite card to configure on the same box and thereby effectively double my incoming bandwidth.

However I was told that no Windows OS will be able to do this.

I was told that Linux will be able to do that provided you are a wizard at Linux. I am a newbie at Linux and have only tried simple things. By the way each satellite card has its own separate MAC address and are essentially the same as any ethernet card. The cards in question are the Pent@Net Satellite receiver cards (www.pentamedia.com)

What I intend to do is setup the Linux box as a Proxy/Gateway for my local Lan so I will also have to out a Lan Card in the box as well.

Linux can indeed bond multiple ethernet cards together and split the traffic load over them. I think the current technical term for this is "channel bonding" and, with ethernet cards, the command you need to look at is "ifenslave".

However your isp's need to support bonding as well if it is going to work
