"\\server\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this resource..."
Samba and Linux Noob here,
Have got user called 'yash' on Ubuntu Server 17.04 and want to make it so that only one of my shares (called 'Private Files') is locked but the other (called 'Public Files') is accessible to anyone on the network. However, when logging in from a Windows 10 PC, when I enter the network credentials, I get a popup from Windows saying that the share is not accessible and I do not have permission to use the resource. All of this is setup using Webmin on the Ubuntu Server. I've looked around and unfortunately got no luck at all, hope someone here can guide me. Thank you in advance Config: Code:

Greetings,
Well, for one, I see that you have two "[global]" definitions in the file... and the two are not the same. The one near the top of the file has the NT password security settings where the one in the "Share Definitions" section does not. I recommend removing the one from the "Share Definitions" section. Now, with regards to the "Private Files" share, I see a path defined, but nothing else. I would recommend adding some more definitions of who can use it and how. Adding settings like writeable =, browseable =, read list =, write list = and valid users = should help your authorized user(s) to connect to that share after giving the credentials to log onto the share. You may also want to check out the man page on smb.conf here. There are a number of share settings that may also help improve the security on that share. HTH. Let us know. |
