[Slackware 10.2] Unable to join network

hi,

I've been trying to connect to the wireless network at my university but so far I've made little progress.

My setup:
A laptop with an ipw2915 Wireless network card running slackware 10.2
eth0 is the wireless network card
eth1 is the wired network card

The problem:
After installing the native drivers for my wireless network card and upgrading the firmware I've been unable to connect to any network with both my wired and wireless card. The wired network interface was working fine until I installed the wireless drivers and firmware. Im sure the firmware is working correctly because I can connect to networks using knoppix.

I think the following screen shot pretty much explains the problem:
http://img438.imageshack.us/my.php?i...31020058xn.png
This is an attempt to connect to the uni network.
upper left shell:
indicates that xsupplicant has successfully authenticated to the wireless network using eap_ttls.

lower left shell:
A fruitless attempt to find a dhcp server using dhclient. I had to assign an ip to my interface before starting dhclient or I would get an "no interfaces found - exiting" error.

The upper right and lower right shell are respectively iwconfig and ifconfig.

Although the wireless network is my priority, a working wired network interface would be nice as well.

Have you managed to correct your problem?
After your driver download/upgrade, rc.hotplug seems to be properly loading the firmware. The downside is that your wired nic which might have been eth0 is now eth1. So can you get the wired card working by chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug , then turn ../rc.hotplug back on and WITHOUT trying to configure the wireless card see if you can figure out if it is now eth1 and keep it running.

Lastly either use the new format in rc.inet1.conf and chmod -x rc.wireless OR use rc.wireless and only configure the wired card in rc.inet1.conf .

Keep us informed.

PS you can use init 1; make your changes; init 3 instead of a full reboot.
