[Courier-imap] Could not open mailbox

I asked this question on teh courier mailing list. THey then mysteriously went quiet. I'm hoping someone here can assist me.

I am tring my best to setup CourierIMAP. After some tring everthign is installed and running and authentication goes throught. But immediately after auth, things just die off. No error in Mail Logs and all it told the imap client (Netscape Messenger) was 'Unable to open mailbox'

I have logged the query to MySQL from Courier and have ran it myself to get the results. I have used these results to ensure that the maildir exists. I have setup Postfix to use the maildir format and not mbox. And I have a copy of my previous maildir folder. It even has some of couriers private files in it.

What could the problem be? And why does even on debug level 2 CourierIMAP gives so little information?

Please Advise

It sounds like it could be a permissions issue. Can you post the output from:
ls -la /home/USER/Maildir/

I will gladly do so. The thing is I've once got this to work....pre machien crash.

The output:
Code:
total 12
drwxr-xr-x 3 postfix postfix 4096 Aug 8 01:34 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Aug 5 02:25 ..
drwxr-xr-x 12 postfix postfix 4096 Aug 8 16:12 pembo13@dalive.com
pembo13@dalive.com is my maildir which I have been tring to access.

I would be embarrased if this was a file perm issue. But really, CourierIMAP is one of the worst of the OSS apps i've used when it comes to debugging and error reporting.

I hope someone here can help.

Are you setting this up as a virtual mail server or do you have real system accounts too? What are you using for authentication?

Have you run maildirmake? - ie:
/usr/local/courier/imap-3.0.5/bin/maildirmake /path/to/Maildir

I aologize for the vagueness. I am setting up a primarily virtual user system with a MySQL database to authenticate against. If I could get local users to also work automatically that woudl eb fine.

I have not tried the maildirmake command as I was not aware of it. However I had saved a copy of the maildir (which was working with courier) pre crash. So I had just restored it to try. But I'm gonna give the comamdn a try now.
