Last I checked (a year or so ago), it was unquestionably the Surface Pro.

Surface Pro 1? Because I had a Surface Pro 3 and I would say that it was horrible for linux. Accelerometor didn't work, stylus only partially worked, type-cover touchpad only worked at a VERY basic level. Quite unpleasant experience in the end.

I don't have any experience with anything vaguely modern, but I found Debian Stable works out-of-box with Motion Computing LE1700. Even the face buttons work. Only the built in bluetooth doesn't work, and probably the fingerprint reader. (I have no idea how to use the fingerprint reader even if it's fully functional already.)

Also, my main workhorse machines are Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 convertibles (not an external keyboard, though). Out of box, everything works except for the wifi - which is easy to install by adding non-free contrib to /etc/apt/sources.list and
apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

Some day I could go for a Surface Pro, though. I think the first and maybe also the second Surface Pro are good for linux installation. At least, those are the two which are of most interest to me because they're the ones with classic penabled style Wacom stylus input. I really love my Motion Computing LE series stylus, so any penabled compatible Wacom is more interesting to me.

Motion Computing LE1700 has an optional external keyboard/stand/cover, which I have never tried out. It will also work with any USB keyboard, and I use a USB bluetooth adapter to use it with a really nice Logitech k810 keyboard (I prefer to use the tablet flat on a table, for drawing, so a stand is not my usage). There are also various carrying cases which include a stand.

But look up Motion Computing LE1700 to see if it's really something you're interested in. It's old and thick (semi-rugged) and has poor battery life by modern standards. And the fastest CPU available was a 1.5Ghz Core 2 Duo - better than an Atom, but still rather unimpressive. Mainly the LE1700 has held onto popularity because of its usefulness for starving artists. It's the only slate with a 1400x1050 resolution screen, and its screen has very little parallax (the gap between the surface of the screen protector and the actual LCD display). These things make it the best 4:3 screen ratio slate around, for artists.

I forgot to mention that I would like to use the tablet as a cell also! Sorry!

Thanks, Hearthstone.
