Ubuntu tried to launch a Ubuntu phone, and I am pretty sure that would have been a GNU/Linux phone if it was launched. But it never materialized. Nor do I have the details about it.
well i do.
it very much materialised, for sale on 3 different dervices iirc, and installable on a few more.
maybe it's still alive, i really don't know and don't care either, since i found out that under the hood it's very close to android.
the librem 5 however, will be a real gnu/linux phone.
Apparently they're really, really going to start shipping soon.
Unfortunately the price went up a full 100$ - although I'm sure they got so many orders that that wasn't necessary Yes, it used to be 599.
I'm a little miffed.

I mean the Ubuntu Edge phone. Not about Ubuntu Touch/Mobile on other devices. The mobile OS has been discontinued anyhow.

It's still going with UBports. I've installed it on a Nexus 5. Via the terminal, Linux command-line programs can be installed and run on it (via the package manager APT), though graphical x-window programs do not work. There are not a huge amount of native Ubuntu Touch apps for it, but Android apps can be installed and run with Anbox (a container for Android apps). I did manage to get Anbox installed on it, and I've subsequently been able to install and run a few Android apps with it.

I looked quite into Ubuntu touch/mobile when it was alive, but due to the way manufactuerers keep hardware secret and android locks userland to kernel and firmware to userland, it was never possible to accomplish any compatibility with hardware. The support for the phones/hardware they were targetting was abmyssal at best.
Any news where does the actual reality of mobile Gnu/Linux OS standing.
While having device which is ready to a switch from Android, where should i head?
OnePlus opened all possibilities, issue is only a choice o functional OS.
Oh is it?
I though that so far as I can install Back android, and there is support to came back after any deep changes user could make,
there is not any blockade to install any software..
Librem 5 runs on PureOS Linux distribution ($690). Pinephone looks cool by price : $170, wow.
