unlock bootloader for lg optimus g (ls970)

hi, i am trying to install cyanogenmod on this fone using these instructions:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_ls970

but this command is not working:
Code:
[root@localhost ~]# adb devices
List of devices attached
LG-LS970-91d38109	device

[root@localhost ~]# adb reboot bootloader
instead of going into the bootloader screen, it reboots the fone back into the android.

i enabled 'developer options' in the menu is there something else that is needed ?

That doesn't unlock your bootloader - it presumes it's already unlocked. That means a rooted device. See the note about freegee.
Spend some time searching rooting (differs per device/manufacturer) - no doubt you'll wind up on xda-developers.com

for my nexus 5, i always thought you had to unlock the bootloader first in order to install a rooted rom ?

Yeahbut - the Nexus 5 has a google "backdoor" (fastboot oem unlock) not avaiable AFAIK for non-google devices.

I found a bunch of links, but I don't know how good they are.
