I just recently had my phone stolen form me, i dont think the culprits are smart enough to hack it. My question is this. I have mylookout security installed, everytime the phone comes on it screams, they dont know my passcode to unlock the phone (once it is on) is thier a way to hack the phone or even just wipe the entire phone clean (factory reset) without having this information?

i guess using the boot menu so-to-speak?
its a tmobile G2 unrooted
Well I guess they'd just remove the battery as soon as the phone starts making a racket. If they're smart enough then they will find some way to "clean" it up, or if they're dumb maybe they'll think it's more trouble than what it's worth and just trash it.
If you know how you don't need the owner's passcode to reset the phone to factory parameters. I have no doubt there is also a way to bypass the user passcode with a factory master code. Otherwise the service provider would never be able to help with locked up phones, suers who forget passwords, or just plain old hardware glitches.
You have reported it to T-mobile I assume? The provider can find the phone the minute it's turned on even without GPS enabled though not as accurately as with GPS.
never got the phone back, but i still have mylookout activated, police/T-Mobile refused to do anything about it, it seems as though the phone may have been hacked as i thought. the boot menu on older phones has a factory wipe on them..... someone should say something to the manufacturer about this as this is not conducive to getting a stolen phone back. we should also maybe look to mylookout adding a setting to disable the poweroff button/menu that would give you the length of our battery to find it. totally do able. thats it though... no phone... :/
It's probably not cost effective for the police to roll out for a single phone unless there was something else going on - if you were mugged and injured or if a gang of thieves were damaging the area (tourism and so on). Most phone companies give away phones because they are more concerned with the billing so T-Mobile likely won't care unless you're a celebrity.
Did you trace the phone using the GPS tracking on their website? Doing the legwork for the police may make them more inclined to act - though the person is likely to get a very tiny punishment unless they are on outstanding warrants or similar.
As to the factory wipe, it has to be made easy or else the users wouldn't be able to do it when told to by the phone company!
